To know the history of Retterbush Graphics & Packaging, we have to begin with my dad, Don Retterbush. He always had a knack for business and sales starting with his early days of selling playing cards for The United States Playing Card Company. He even ventured into the world of fiberglass manufacturing in my hometown of Piqua, Ohio. But something pushed him in another direction while he worked as a Sales Manager at Adhere Label in Cincinnati. He and a fellow co-worker, Jim Sauer, began producing their own labels with a single machine in Jim’s garage.
It didn’t take long for my dad to see new opportunities and take the plunge into the flexographic label business. In 1976, dad found a partner in Jim Sauer and opened R&S Label in Cincinnati, Ohio. From the beginning, Dennis Meador facilitated daily operations as Plant Manager. In 1985, I joined the R&S team and began managing customer accounts. Looking to retire, my father sold out his part of R&S Label in 1990. Denny and I continued to work for Jim Sauer until 1995 when he sold out to Wallace Computer Systems based out of Chicago.
My dad, Denny, and I felt we had the experience, knowledge, and energy to start our own label company. So, in 1996, we started up Retterbush Graphics & Packaging in West Chester, Ohio. Over the years, my dad stepped back from the company to retire, but Denny and I have continued to work together ever since.
We are twenty years into this venture, and I couldn’t be more proud of our company. We’ve increased our workspace to a 17,000 sq. ft. facility, added state-of-the-art equipment, and increased our product offerings to satisfy today’s customers. But what I’m most proud of is our staff. You won’t find a more dedicated team, some of which have been with us for over twenty years since the early days at R&S Label.
This we know for sure – quality products at fair prices, efficient service, and professional customer support are the keys to our success. We have come to know many wonderful people both locally and from across the country all seeking to create quality products right here in the US. Let our family-owned and operated company work for you.
